PCLLA Governance and Research Conference

The Philippine Councilors League Legislative Academy in partnership with Philippine Christian University and Belarmine Global Education scheduled the first Governance and Research Conference on May 24-26, 2018 at Bayview Park Hotel, City of Manila.

Around 500 students of Baccalaureate, Masteral and Doctoral Programs participated in the said activity. The Opening Program was graced by PCL LA Executive Director Larry Caminero and Dean Robert Galindez, PCU Extension and Transnational Education. They gave the overview of the conference. VP for Academic Affairs Kathleen Rose Guimbatan provided a message while Metro Manila Development Authority (MMDA) Chair General Danny Lim served as the Keynote Speaker. He talked about the upcoming projects that will alleviate the traffic condition in the Metro as well as road current issues and community concerns. On behalf of the PCL National President Luis “Chavit” Singson, Regional Chairperson Atty. Oliver Owen Garcia reported several accomplishments of the League.

Former CHED Commissioner Dr. Alex Brillantes, President of Philippine Society for Public Administration and Executive Director Dr. Lisan Calina discussed about Developing Research-Based Policies and Data Mining. IT Director of SRIA Ms. Jocel Calcena presented the EDMODO/LMS or the online storage of e-books and other learning materials while Executive Director Rico Pableo of the National Commission for Culture and Arts talked about the priority programs of their agency.

On the second and third days, Dr. Ramon Ricardo Roque, Senior Deputy Secretary General of the House of Representatives gave updates on human resources management and CESO programs; Atty. Odilon Pasaraba, DILG-BLGS Director presented about high-impact programs which DILG and the LGUs can organize. General Esperion Javier of the Philippine Sugar Corporation discussed about the basics of Federalism.

The highlight of the activity was the students’ consultation and presentation of their research topics. The students were also given the opportunity for a campus tour to see the facilities of the Philippine Christian University in Taft, Manila. For his personal assistance, National President Singson sent a Partas bus to be utilized during the campus tour.

PCLLA Executive Director Larry Caminero encouraged the government officials to finish their education as this will also assist them in finding a better future after government service. He added that on the past administrations, several three termer councilors were appointed to career positions due to their PCLLA degrees.
